We left Seattle July 30th and traveled to Kennewick over Chinook Pass. A great start to what is turning out to be a great adventure. This is the first extended ride for Barb other than last year's weeklong ride to Sturgis and I am happy to say she is enjoying it as much as I had hoped she would.

It was a long two-day trip from Kennewick to Denver, mostly on interstates, but the object of this portion of the ride was to get to Aunt Billie's as soon as possible. Along the way we stopped on I-84 just east of Salt Lake to take a look at Devil's Slide. I had passed this way several times before and vowed to take a closer look this time. After our arrival in Denver we spent several days with my Aunt and Uncle catching up on past happenings and discussing what we were looking forward to on the coming Posse Ride.

Wednesday, August 4th found us traveling the short 60 miles to Colorado Springs. When we arrived at the headquarters hotel we found a lot of friendly people, both those who were there just to participate and those who were there to put on this grand adventure. Within our ride packet we discovered maps outlining the routes to be taken, a leather case containing a Posse Star, ID card, and passport outlining the entire journey we were about to embark on, friendship coins to give to those along the route whom we may wish to thank for some helpful gesture, and a limited edition Harley-Davidson Posse Ride watch. While in Colorado Springs we spent a few moments in a thunder shower getting our bodies but not our spirits wet, joined in a group ride to Garden of the Gods to view up close the Red Rocks that make up a large portion of the landscape and learned about their formation, and went to the Flying W ranch for dinner and a cowboy show where we meet Mike and Wanda Dartez who would become our riding partners for the duration of the Posse Ride. The show was good enough we bought two of the performers CDs

Friday morning, the 6th, found us beginning the first of many days of travel. We have joined up with a couple from Austin Texas, Mike and Wanda Dartez, and that first day we stopped in Canon City Colorado to see the house where my Grandma Bilow lived and I had spent so many fun filled days during summer vacations in my youth. I had intended to ride over the Skyline Drive in Canon City but unfortunately it was not open so I must return another time to fulfill that dream. From there we stopped at the Royal Gorge to view the worlds highest suspension bridge, then continued on to Durango Colorado. Saturday found us at Mesa Verde National Park and a tour through Balcony House, cliff dwelling site of the Anasazi Indians. So far we had officially visited only one state but that was soon to end as we arrived at Four Corners Monument, the only place in the United States where four states converge. At this point we were able to ride into and out of Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado in a matter of moments. Mike was able to run through all four states in under 15 seconds, take that summer Olympics!!!
Our days travel ended as we reached Moab Utah and a fine dinner and drink at the Moab Brewery.
